Pig Rock
Another image from the trip to Page, AZ. While hiking up the side of Yellow Rock we stumbled across this amazing formation, no higher than my knee. I was able to get this shot by laying on the ground about two feet from the “pig”. This was an unexpected find and is definitely one of my favorites from the trip. I hope you enjoy it too!

Slot Canyon
Memorial Day weekend I took a trip to Northern Arizona and Southern Utah with my friend Roger. We spent nearly four days winding our way down unmarked dirt roads seeking photo inspiration. In this part of the country its easy to find! The early mornings were spent waking at 3:30 and driving to remote sunrise spots in order to get the soft light that really makes the amazing rock colors of this region shine. The afternoons were much the same, in search of that perfect sunset. On Saturday we decided to fit in an old favorite of mine Antelope Canyon just outside of Page, AZ. For $26 you can spend 2 hours in this canyon without a guide and with your tripod! On my three trips here, I have always used all the time allowed. The formations of this canyon are truly remarkable and the ever changing light from above creates new and exciting compositions. Its perfect for the noon hour when other locations are washed out by the harsh mid day sun.
This photo came from reminding myself to slow down and take in every possible angle. Turning around to look back at where I’d been paid off, as this “river of light” was not nearly as obvious from the other direction. I used my new Canon 7d and my old favorite Canon 16-35L lens. I used three exposure bracketed shots to create this HDR image. The final adjustments were done in Nik Color Efex Pro 3 to add a gradient color mask. Although the original colors of the canyon are stunning in their own right, I wanted to create an even more other worldly interpretation.
I hope you enjoy it!
